Tina Anastasia | Designer Spotlight

This week’s designer spotlight is Tina Anastasia, the director of interior design from Mark Finlay Interiors. So, without further ado — enjoy this wonderful interview with Tina and view some of the imagery from their stunning designs!

Why did you decide to become a designer?

I have a photo of when I was 11 when I drew a dollhouse for a furniture company. That was the spark. With my father in the industry, I insisted he bring me to job sites where I became very comfortable with design and how the whole process worked.

What is your favorite current resource when working on a project?

I constantly sift through shelter publications for inspiration, there is always a towering stack on my desk. Then, I end up dreaming a lot of my ideas based on what I glean from those publications!

Could you tell us a bit about your personal brand?

It would be convenient to say I have a singular style, but that is truly impossible. If you saw inside my clothes closet, you would know what I mean. I love being open to new ideas and always looking at things differently. I believe in order to grow, you self-critique, you dream of new and exciting things, and you take risks. Personally, I enjoy being a good listener and appreciating client’s desires is important. Learning how to take what appeals to them and craft that into something special and unique is how I see my job.

Do you prefer to design residential or corporate spaces?

I would have to say both. I love the personalization and intimate nature of residential design and the jazz that you can get from hospitality.

What is your favorite color palette to work with?

ALL COLOR!! I strive to incorporate as much color as possible into each design. Pushing the boundaries on color is one of the most exciting aspects of my job and I will do so as much as the client is comfortable.

If you could travel back, what advice would you give yourself as you start this career?

My advice would center around self-confidence. This industry invites A LOT of criticism. Always stay confident and true to your decisions no matter who says what!

What do you like most about DesignerInc?

I love that you are in touch with designers. It is always interesting to hear about another designers approach, and I love that you are taking the time and sharing with us all on DesignerInc. Keeping in touch with other designers is tough, as we are all so busy working and do not always have time to network.
