This week’s designer spotlight focuses on GraysonHarris Interiors + Design, LLC, owned and operated by Robert Grayson and Andrew Harris of course! They are a full service interior design firm providing high-end, innovative design solutions. They enjoy working in both contemporary and traditional design, but most importantly, strive to put the clients’ needs and aesthetics before all else in their design work. What is your favorite part about being a designer?
One of the most satisfying parts of being a designer, aside from stretching your artistic talents, is when clients realize not only that our designs have exceeded their expectations, but that we’ve also enriched their lifestyles.
Who or what would you cite as your most important influence?
All too often, clients get caught up in the local trend and what they see on television. We like to look to international design for inspiration, whether it’s Europe or South America, there are so many fantastic design elements that get overlooked here.
Can you tell us about your personal brand?
Our personal brand is avant-garde/chic; taking the unexpected and keeping it restrained. We love mixing classic pieces throughout a modern space or vice-versa. Also, an unconventional use of artwork is also a fun detail we employ.
What would be one piece of advice you’d give someone starting their own interior design career?
It’s difficult for us to come up with just one piece of advice for someone starting out. However, we think it’s empowering when you find a mentor – someone whose work you respect. But beyond that…listen. Take time to hear what clients are telling you – and what they’re NOT telling you. And finally, learn to see. Notice little details, how things work together, and unexpected color combinations. Design is literally everywhere, so look and appreciate it.
