More than three decades later, Troels Denmark continues to operate and distribute and sell furniture to tens of nations around the world. Founded in Denmark, the company has expanded its operations to Las Vegas in the United States. We spoke to the company’s president and CFO, Jesper Skovby, and the company’s lead designer, Victoria Sanchez Gil about why the comfortable quality of Troels furniture sets apart from other manufacturers in the industry.
Let’s start out by learning a bit more about your company. What makes your brand and products unique?
We mix Danish and New Nordic heritage with contemporary and American comfort designs using quality and sustainable materials.
Do you have a favorite piece in your collection or a new item or collection coming that designers might not know about?
Our favourite piece is Danish Classics and Poetic, both featured in this blog.
Who or what inspires you most when conceiving of your designs?
We are inspired by world trends such as those featured in the Milan show.
What is the process behind coming up with new designs and products?
We have team discussion about what we would like or need to add to our product designs. Then, we begin the product procurement process with partners in Denmark. One of our furniture designers comes up with a proposal and once it is approved, it goes to the prototype stage and a sample is made.
What is your favorite part about the manufacturing industry?
Our favorite part is the process that takes place at the department of upholstery where you see all the components together and a product is born.
Please speak to the custom nature of your lines.
We have many configurations, fabrics and various options to upgrade designs. This varies depending on the furniture model or collection.
Please give us an overview of the more personal side of your business, who’s behind it, how did it come to be, any interesting stories about the origin or the founders you can share?
The US-based company is led by husband and wife, Jesper and Victoria, who are partnered with Denmark-based factory owners father and son, Svend and Bjarke. Many of the furniture models have been designed by Kurt Skovby who is Jesper’s father. The origin of the name Troels comes from the original owner whose last name was Troelsen. Troelsen sold the company to Svend Petersen.
What makes Troels Denmark what is it?
Our unique blend of materials, details, design and comfort levels sets us apart from other companies. We believe that our products are affordable and in great quality.
Do you have any upcoming plans for the company?
We are setting up our new headquarters in Orange County that will serve as a distribution center, showroom, offices and photo studio. In January of 2021 we are relocating our showroom from the seventh floor at the Las Vegas market to the fifth floor at High Point in the IHFC.
We have a chair collection currently in the works that will be introduced in 2021. We also have other products in the pipeline that we are hoping to showcase at the High Point show in April of next year.
