Marie Burgos | Manufacturer Spotlight

Welcome back! You may remember Marie Burgos from a designer spotlight we did on her earlier this year. But now we’d like to introduce you to Marie from a manufacturing standpoint.

Marie emphasizes comfort and style, which is evident in her designs and her collection. We hope you enjoy learning more about Marie and her collection.

Why did you decide to create your own product line in addition to interior design? And what do you love about being in the manufacturing business?

While designing homes for residential clients, I found myself custom-designing more and more pieces to give each space a unique look. Once the homes were published, I began getting calls from homeowners and interior designers about where the pieces that I designed could be purchased. This led to establishing a separate manufacturing side of my business in order to satisfy demand. And eventually I was inspired to create a full collection based on my particular design aesthetic and philosophy. I found that I love the creative and fabrication process. This is in part because it gives my husband (my business partner!!) and me the opportunity to collaborate on each piece as a reflection of our shared background and style. And the manufacturing process is a labor of love because we get to mold each piece and work hand in hand with artisans to bring them to life. It is a fabulous experience and the cherry on top is seeing people enjoy our creations in their homes.

What is your favorite piece in the Marie Burgos collection?

Right now my favorite piece is the Milo Sofa that we just introduced (see pictured below). It is part of the Milo collection, using our son Miles’s nickname. The Milo Sofa is a perfect balance of Ying and Yang with its feng shui-inspired mix of clean lines and curves. It is the sofa’s curvy proportions that make it so comfortable and very sexy. I particularly like the Milo Sofa in the vibrant red fabrics that we used on the first prototypes.

Can you walk me through the customization process?

In addition to our own custom designs, we continually customize showroom designs for our clients. Customization includes specifying a size or proportion to fit a particular space as well as selecting fabrics, leathers, upholstery, and finishes to suit the tastes and needs of each client.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Actually I would love to do a world tour with my family. I have already been to quite a few countries and each has provided new inspirations for my creative process.

What is something you enjoy doing when you are not creating products or designing?

Again, I love spending time with my family. I feel blessed to have children, so watching them grow and helping them develop their personalities and realize their dreams is a big motivator and a blossoming experience for me.
