Regina Andrew| Manufacturer Spotlight

Founded on the belief that everything we do should electrify the room, Regina Andrew sparks self-expression and creativity through unforgettable design.

We spoke to the Art Director, Caroline Kerfoot, in this interview for byDesign. Magazine.

Let’s start out by learning a bit more about your company. What makes your brand and products unique?

The Regina Andrew brand is unique in that it was founded by and flourishes under two creative powerhouses, CCO Carla Regina & CEO James Andrew. They have an incredible ability to experiment and mix styles, textures and materials so seamlessly throughout the line, creating an aesthetic all their own.

Do you have a favorite piece in your collection or a new item or collection coming that designers might not know about?

This is tough, there are so many great new intros! If I had to choose, I love the Wolfe Linear Chandelier and Wolfe Sconce. The chandelier is perfect above a long table or counter (not always easy to find!) and the sconce can be rotated in so many different configurations – even placed on the ceiling as a flush mount- that it could truly fit any space.

Who or what inspires you most when conceiving of your designs?

Growing up in the Detroit area and its industry inspired the cofounders immensely as well as extensive travel around the world. The materials they work with can also inspire a piece, such as the Square Raw Alabaster Lamp. While traveling in India, they saw the beauty and potential of the raw, unpolished material.

What is the process behind initiating new designs/products?

Carla and James are always brainstorming and talking about new ideas and inspiration together. James will work out his ideas often in 3D rendering programs and Carla uses a sketchbook to bring her new product development to life. They’re an incredible team.

What is your favorite part about the manufacturing process?

I think seeing their ideas come to life, in a very tangible way, is quite exciting.

Please speak to the custom nature of your lines.

We have a particular line of pieces that are all manufactured by local craftsmen in our studio, just south of Detroit. They have a distinct style, with patinated metals and gorgeous woods. Products range from bars to great shelving units to dining tables.

Please give us an overview of the more personal side of your business, who’s behind it, how did it come to be, any interesting stories about the origin or the founders you can share?

The cofounders, James and Carla, are a married, creative powerhouse. Very early in their relationship, it became clear that they shared a keen interest in all things home. Rather than going out, they would paint rooms or rearrange furniture. Both being animal lovers, they decided to enter a contest designing a dog house – which they ended up winning. One thing led to another and soon they entered the world of design and manufacturing. Their hard work and determination built the company to what it is today.

Are there any charitable causes that Regina Andrew partakes in?

The cofounders and many of their employees have a true passion for animal welfare (many of our dogs and cats are rescued from shelters). Because of this, the company designs, produces and sells really nice tote bags with a featured rescue dog on each. 100% of the proceeds are donated to the Last Day Dog Rescue.
