We’ve got another fabulous manufacturer spotlight for you this week – Gustav Carroll! Gustav Carroll is a family owned and operated furniture company based in Los Angeles, CA. They love keeping with past tradition by working with 18th and 19th century designs alongside modernism providing you with a beautiful, hand-crafted, relevant piece of furniture that can become a part of your family’s history.
What makes Gustav Carroll special?
The Gustav Carroll & Deux Mondes collections have more than 150 pieces in their lines, spanning from different cultures and periods with both a traditional, yet modern flair. All of their pieces have hand-applied finishes by artisans. They are all made by their own master craftsman, which ensures quality control. Gustav Carroll works closely with their clients to help them design and envision their custom items. They are also expanding to new collections in engineered wood flooring, hand-painted glass tiles along with a new collection of metal, glass, and wood furniture which are due out this year.All of their products are made in Los Angeles California. Our interview with David Grinsztein, the founder of Gustav Caroll, is below – enjoy!
What is your favorite piece that you’ve designed or just a favorite piece in your collection?
Although I love ALL of the pieces in my collections because I designed them exclusively for the Gustav Carroll brands, the custom one-of-a-kind pieces are my favorite to design for our clients. This allows me to challenge myself as a designer and where new ideas can begin.
Who or what inspires you most when coming up with designs?
As a designer, inspiration comes from anywhere and at any given point: walking down a street, the surrounding landscape, a vacation to a foreign land, watching a movie, a shape marking its shadow, or an object in an irregular direction or facing upside down. All this will enhance my imagination to provide me with inspiration and allow me to add these images from my imagination to create a leg on a console or arm to a chair and so on.
What is your favorite part about the manufacturing industry?
My favorite part is everything from sketching an idea to designing the elements to producing the items and feeling the wood turn into an armchair or a turned table leg. Basically it is seeing the development come to life. It’s almost like watching a child grow up and being proud of what he has become.Plus, I love seeing our clients’ faces light up and enjoy their furniture.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I would love to go to 15th Century Venice Italy, 18th Century France, and 20th Century Argentina because that is where it all began – the original music, art and design. It would give me goosebumps just being in the same room with these treasures.
