Italian polymath of the High Renaissance Leonardo DaVinci once wrote, “I have been impressed with the urgency of doing. Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Being willing is not enough; we must do.”
We have yet to meet a designer who more fully embodies the art of doing. George Johnson, designer, physicist and furniture engineer has been busy applying his knowledge in his studio, creating furniture worthy of being called works of art.
Meet Johnson Furniture
Johnson Furniture is a small cabinet making business producing bespoke hand made furniture. From expanding circular dining tables to small shelving units George enjoys producing unique and original designs. Please browse the furniture section to see his past work, and the workshop section for information about the materials George works with and some example projects. If you have an idea for a piece of furniture George would be delighted to help bring it to life.
All of George’s pieces are made individually to order. If you have seen something you like on this website, then George would be happy to make a piece again. The size, design, and materials can of course be adapted to your needs. If you have existing furniture you would like something to blend in with, or would like an original design, then please get in touch to discuss your requirements.
George grew up in Oxford and Durham and was in the workshop from an early age. Woodwork developed into a keen interest, and at 17 he had work exhibited at the International Woodworking and Turning Exhibition at the NEC in Birmingham. He also sold pieces at craft fairs in Durham.
After completing a first class masters degree in physics, George decided that woodwork was where his passion really lay, and in 2005 Johnson Furniture was born. Now based in Selby, North Yorkshire, George makes furniture on an individual commission basis.
