Goods offered by Orchids Lux Home are exceptional in quality and style. Founded in 1986, the company has carried a curated collection of designer pillows, throws, quilts, and duvet bedding sets. We spoke with Shreya Jain, the director of creative design and daughter of Orchids Lux Home’s founder, to learn more about the inspiration behind the company’s designs.
Let’s start out by learning a bit more about your company. What makes your brand and products unique?
We are a family owned business that was founded in 1986 by my mother, Mrs. Deepa Jain, who wanted to celebrate and share her love for the home and her passion for interior design with the world. Our linens are contemporary and modern in design and are made using techniques of hand embroidery, appliqué and quilting. They are primarily composed of natural fibers – cotton, silk and linen. We made these choices for our fabric as we strive to decrease the negative environmental impact that manufacturing companies may have.
Do you have a favorite piece in your collection or a new item or collection coming that designers might not know about?
We are launching a special product in January 2021: a sheet set collection which is composed of new-age natural fiber! This product is going to be revolutionary to the experience of sleeping, our customers will be amazed!
Who or what inspires you most when conceiving of your designs?
We are inspired by art, travel, street markets, vintage fairs, monuments, and international textile art form.
What is the process behind coming up with new designs and products?
It has truly been a blessed journey to seek inspiration from some of the great masters of the arts like Rembrandt, Michaelangelo and Van Gogh as well as present day luminaries like Anamika Khanna and Anna Sui.
New designs are a result of staying inspired and taking a closer look at life. I was recently introduced by my mentor to the renowned chef Ali EI Sayed who runs a café in Astoria, New York. He truly weaved a flavorful experience that involved the senses with his pick of fresh vegetables, grown at his farm in upstate New York. He served edible art on a plate that engaged all my senses.
Meeting such artists in person breathes new life and inspiration into everything I do.
What is your favorite part about the manufacturing industry?
My favorite part is when I am finalizing a concept for a new collection and putting together fabrics, trims, techniques and color palettes! One of the best parts of this process is when the creation of the very first sample.
