Philippa Radon | Designer Spotlight

Philippa Radon is a designer as well as colour consultant based out of the New York area. Years previous, she developed her own colour based design philosophy and uses that to help her provide her clients with a space to appreciate in a new light. Let’s jump right in to our interview with Philippa!

What is your favorite part about being a designer?

In brief, apart from the everyday surprises and diversity, I would have to say that my favorite part is the mental and physical prep and organisation when starting a new project.  There is something wonderful and energizing with the anticipation of the journey ahead: weighing and measuring the size of the looming mountain to climb, crafting the plan for both the creative and logistical aspects, pulling together the right team and crew that serves the project and the client best, and clearing space on every level to then fill space.

Tell us a little about your personal brand…

Colour has always been my main platform. Inspired through nature sounds so cliche, but it’s true. So, my personal brand takes on all aspects in terms of colour derived from daily observations, simple lifestyle surroundings, routines, and rituals.  I also have a unique brand approach with my clients, as we carefully craft their ‘Design Portfolio’.  Building curated pieces, and reviewing life habits that serve functionally as well as bringing in beauty when we work to develop their not so Wall Street portfolio home investment file.

Who or what would you cite as your most important influence?

I find the older designers like Hicks, Hadley, Oscar De LaRenta textiles, Parish and strong european influences important in my design work. On a more contemporary note, Abigail Ahern is also an important influence to me for her use of dark colour and mood.

If you could travel back, what advice would you give yourself as you start this career?

Really, phew – well …. be brave, confident and courageous. Set client boundaries and ground rules that might vary from project to project.

What is your favorite current resource?

My own line of upholstered goods, BoHo Unique Objects (out of Atlanta though now in CA also), and a few secret NY haunts which you might have to pour wine to have me tell you those! Also C2 Paint Line who I have an association with – a great paint company, and Red Disk wallpaper.

Fun fact about yourself…

I have Synesthesia {which is the production of a sense impression relating to one sense or part of the body by stimulation of another sense or part of the body}.

Thanks for sharing, Philippa! It has been great having you be our a part of our designer spotlight this week!
