Julian Chichester | Manufacturer Spotlight

Let’s start out by learning a bit more about your company. What makes your brand and products unique?

As a manufacturer, the company has a reputation for quality craftsmanship and original design. The decoration, detail, and unusual finishes are what sets Julian Chichester apart from the crowd.

This is furniture with a personality. Must-have classics mix with new designs to look amazing in any contemporary space and equally as covetous alongside traditional pieces.

Do you have a favorite piece in your collection or a new item or collection coming that designers might not know about?

The Dakota Dining Table is by far my favorite piece in the collection.

Who or what inspires you most when conceiving of your designs?

Julian is inspired by antiques and designers including, but not limited to, Marcel Breuer, Marco Zanuso, Jacques Adnet, Jean Michel Frank, and Karl Springer.

What is the process behind initiating new designs/products?

Julian is inspired by antiques and designers including, but not limited to, Marcel Breuer, Marco Zanuso, Jacques Adnet, Jean Michel Frank, and Karl Springer.

What is your favorite part about the manufacturing process?

My favorite part of the manufacturing process is that everything is handmade. From every stitch on our leather wrapped collection, to each hand applied panel of Silver Leaf, every single piece is unique as they are skillfully crafted by hand.

Please speak to the custom nature of your lines.

Whether it is customization of an existing design or working alongside clients to create completely unique products, we will rise to the challenge.

Please give us an overview of the more personal side of your business, who’s behind it, how did it come to be, any interesting stories about the origin or the founders you can share?

After a brief career trading shares in the city of London, Julian went traveling through Thailand and Burma with his friend (and business partner) Richard. They sold their haul of Eastern furniture and antiques from a shop in Portobello Road, but were soon creating their own designs, initially for garden furniture, manufactured in Vietnam. It is this travel- inspired, constantly evolving, experimental and eclectic approach has developed into his eponymous, and now global, brand.

What is the best part about working for Julian Chichester?

The best part about working for a company like Julian Chichester is that we’re a small tight knit team, who values client opinions. Together in the US, we are a team of only 10 people. Julian values personal feedback from his team and ultimately his clients on a regular basis. We like to introduce new things and absorb as much client feedback as we can to make changes to fit their needs more effectively.
